The Sacrament of Marriage
Preparation
Many people will be involved in your preparation for this happy
occasion. Each will have
something important to offer.
All are motivated by a single desire, that you will be happy
together for the rest of your lives.
The first step is to call the rectory
(508-485-0016) to schedule an appointment with one of the priests or
with the deacon. At that
meeting a date and time for the wedding celebration will be established
and put into the parish calendar.
For the meeting, or soon after,
you will need to provide
recent copies (dated within the last six months) of each of your baptism
certificates. Copies of
your Confirmation certificates are also required for those who have
received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The priest or deacon will discuss the Sacrament of Matrimony with
you, gather all of the appropriate information and request any
additional requirements that must be fulfilled.
You will also be asked to attend a
marriage preparation program
sometimes called Pre-Cana.
Marriage preparations programs are offered throughout the Archdiocese
all year long. Schedules
can be obtained by visiting the website:
http://www.bostoncatholic.org/MarriageMinistries.aspx and clicking
on the "Marriage Preparation (Engaged Couples)" link on the left.
Choose the "Schedule of Marriage Preparation Programs" link from
the drop down menu for a listing of programs, locations and dates.
You will also be invited to contact our
parish music director,
Mr. Roger Mansen (617-448-6477).
Roger will meet with you at the church to demonstrate some of the
music that is available for weddings and assist you in choosing the
appropriate music, songs and hymns for the various parts of the
ceremony.
Please note
that only liturgical music may be selected.
This will allow you to prepare a wedding celebration that
reflects your own wishes as well as following the tradition of the
Catholic Church.
The parish is very pleased to provide the services of a wedding coordinator, Mrs. Maureen King. She will conduct the wedding rehearsal and then be with you on the day of the wedding. She makes sure that everything is set up, helps organize the procession and functions as the altar server. You will schedule your rehearsal date and time with her. Maureen can be reached at 508-229-2781.
Usually the parish clergy will be available to preside at your marriage.
Visiting priests and deacons
are also welcome. Please
ask them to contact us. If
the priest/deacon is not from the Archdiocese of Boston, a letter from
his bishop may be required.
If the priest/deacon lives outside of
If you are marrying someone who is of a
different faith,
we are happy to welcome his/her minister or rabbi.
Please have the minister or rabbi contact the parish.
It is also possible to celebrate this marriage in another church
or sacred space. The parish
staff will assist you in this regard.
If your address or phone number changes
during the time of your engagement, please notify the parish office so
that you will be sure to receive all updated information.
